Ryan Kircher, a 25-year-old emerging talent in motorsports, is based in Thousand Oaks, California. With a strong foundation in sim racing, Ryan has been an avid competitor for several years and began transitioning to on-track racing in 2023. In the virtual realm, he holds an impressive 4,000 iRating and competes with two professional sim racing teams, Vesta Sport and Square Motorsports. On the track, Ryan showcases his skills in the Gridlife Rush SR spec series, as well as SVRA, SCCA, and NASA events.

In 2024, Ryan expanded his expertise by launching a sim coaching program, where he has successfully enhanced the performance of numerous teammates. His coaching extends beyond virtual racing, as he leverages sim technology to prepare drivers for real-world racing endeavors. Under his guidance, several drivers have achieved top-five finishes and podium results in highly competitive fields of over 30 participants, significantly improving from prior results.

Ryan is a firm advocate for the critical role of simulators in both online racing and event preparation. He emphasizes that practicing proper techniques, focusing on key performance elements, and strengthening the mind-muscle connection through simulation training are essential for drivers to gain a competitive edge from the very first lap.

How To Use Your Simulator As A Training Tool

Mindset

First and foremost, take it seriously! Treat every session as if you're behind the wheel of a real car-where crashing simply isn't an option. When you consistently approach the simulator with a 'this is real' mindset, strong habits are built that carry over into split-second decisions on track. You will also train your mind to focus under pressure and maintain focus for extended periods of time.

Hepatics/Motion/Force

Blasting a simulator's hepatics, motion and force feedback levels can feel thrilling, especially when the experience is new. However, setting levels too high can mask the detail that communicates how the car is behaving. This is primarily evident when driving on the limit. When all simulator systems are properly tuned and working in harmony, the experience is immensely useful for driver training!

Harness Effect

On the race track, a six-point harness does more than protect you. By holding you tightly in place, it connects you directly to the car, enhancing your feel for suspension movement, tire grip, and G-forces. That deeper connection allows you to drive with greater precision. The same principle applies if you have tactile feedback or motion on your rig. When strapped in snug, the harness allow you to interpret vibration frequencies with increased accuracy. A simple upgrade to become one with your simulator and find time on track!
